An oral cancer screening is a quick, gentle examination of the mouth, head, and neck. It is routinely included as part of your dental hygiene appointments and helps identify unusual tissue changes that may require further assessment.
Oral cancer has been increasing across Canada, including people under 30. Early detection of oral cancers can greatly increase the success rate of treatment as it can go
undiagnosed for a long period of time. It is now recommended that an oral cancer screening occurs at every appointment for every patient.
If you notice something that does not look or feel right—especially a change lasting longer than two weeks—please arrange an assessment rather than waiting for your next routine appointment
